Choose your research criteria before exploring a platform’s features.
Choose your working environment
Start with where you expect to work: a desktop terminal, a web browser or a mobile device. Check the access requirements, supported environment and sign-in process in the current platform documentation. Record which options are available for the account you are researching.
Look at everyday navigation
Create a short list of the tools you need to find quickly: instruments, chart settings, watchlists and account history. Read how the documented interface organizes them. Keep a note of platform versions so that later updates do not make your research ambiguous.
Understand the order ticket
Read the platform’s instructions for order types and their parameters. Review volume, price and expiry fields before submitting an order, and find the instructions for amending or cancelling pending orders. Do not assume identical controls across different platforms.
Keep features in perspective
Platform features are one part of a broader review. Read the available markets, fee schedule and account conditions alongside the software documentation. If a feature is not documented for a particular account or device, leave its availability unconfirmed.
Research checklist
- List the devices you expect to use.
- Check the documented platform version and access requirements.
- Locate chart, watchlist and account-history controls.
- Read order types, parameters and cancellation instructions.
- Review costs and account conditions alongside the platform.
